Who are the
Widescreen crew?

Widescreen Productions is part of the new media wave of video production and filming. We can have the event filmed, cut and uploaded in time to make the news.

I first worked with Mike and Tsehai more than 25 years ago in Christchurch, New Zealand.  As seasoned professionals I have always known them to deliver on their promises.  Their keen sense of humor is an added bonus that makes working with them lots of fun too:)

Tsehai Tiffin

Freelance Journalist
Tsehai Tiffin is a freelance journalist who has been producing stories about New Zealand and particularly the South Island for over twenty years. She has been a South Island correspondent for Close Up, Sunday, Holmes and One News.  Tsehai also worked for TVNZ in Auckland and Sydney as its Australia Correspondent.  She has also been the South Island producer for Holmes.

Video Journalist
Tsehai often takes a second camera on shoots.  She started filming some of her own stories in 2008, when an Auckland news cameraman dropped out of a ten-day trip to the Sub-Antarctic Islands at the last minute.

The quality of the stories is much better with a cameraman, but it’s liberating to be able to pick up the camera if you have to!

Media Trainer
Tsehai has conducted media training workshops, and one-on-one television presentation and interview training.  Her teaching experience comes from three years at the NZ Broadcasting School as the Senior Tutor of Journalism.

Mike McLeod

Cameraman and video editor
Mike (Mac) McLeod began his career as a film cameraman shooting everything from Drama to Sport before specialising in News and Current Affairs as the ENG era took over. Assignments have taken him everywhere from Olympic Games to the Gulf War.

The last eight years have been spent based in Queenstown shooting, editing and uploading stories for broadcast on national and international news channels and more recently content for websites.

Many years of working to tight News deadlines has given me the perfect skill set to quickly turn around events and content for websites. It’s about knowing what shots to look for and what comments are needed to tell a story concisely.

Working in the Queenstown area means Mike has a large range of contacts with local operators and businesses from helicopter companies to Search and Rescue, fishing guides to farmers.

Mike shoots primarily on a Sony PMW350 but also has a PDW530P and a Canon 5D.

I have known and worked with Mac for well over a decade, firstly at TV1 and now at 3 News. He’s a great friend as well as a highly professional camera operator, who’s upskilled in recent years to be equally proficient at editing.  He’s a one stop shop for us looking for footage and items out of Queenstown and the job is always done with a minimum of fuss.

David Di Somma, Sports reporter, 3 News

When Destination Queenstown required a weekly video blog I asked Mike McLeod of Widescreen Productions to start the project.   Mike not only came up with fresh ideas each week; he filmed; did the interviews; and edited them with the minimum of fuss or input from us.  Every Friday morning the team would preview the blog, Mike had the right touch and a great story every time.
